In early February 2016, Pierre and I received devastating news from his neurologist. The muscle weakness in Pierre’s hands and arms was not going to go away and he was being diagnosed as the early onset of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). We desperately looked to his doctors to give us some hope.
Since there is no cure, they had nothing to offer us. Pierre and I could not accept that answer. We started the fight of our lives researching everything and changing our diet adding strict vitamin regiment and giving his body anything we could to fight this horrible disease. Sadly, ALS is winning.
I buried myself in research of alternative medicine and doctors. My research lead me to Dr. Burton Feinerman. Pierre and I set up a consultation to speak with him about stem cell research therapy. There is a stem cell therapy being done in the United States but the stem cells needed to help an ALS patient are not yet available in the states.
Dr. Feinerman trained at the Mayo Clinic and has dedicated his life to the study of these incurable diseases. He works closely with Dr. Javier Piano, a neurosurgeon in Lima, Peru. Dr. Piano trained at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and received his PhD in Molecular Biology at George Washington University School of Medicine.
I also have been able to gather more information on Dr. Piano from some of my dearest friends Doug and Ulyses with family in Lima, Peru. Ulyses’ cousin is also a doctor in Lima and has worked with Dr. Piano at the same private hospital and he comes highly recommended as a very respected doctor and one of the best in the country.
This fight for life is about Pierre LaCasse, a friend to so many. A son to Fran, a brother to Mario and Dinah. A brother in law to Eileen and Ken. An Uncle to Taya, Zak, Becca and Seth. My husband for 22 years and my life. Any donations help Pierre in the fight for his life.
